If you have a digital compact camera then you'll probably encounter red-eye on your subjects.  This is because the flash is so close to the lens.One way to try and avoid this is to put the camera on Red Eye Reduction Mode.  Furthermore, if you ask your subject to look into the light for a few seconds prior to shooting (will reduce the size of their pupil), this can also help prevent the dreaded red-eye.
