Doggy Day Out

Thank you to Joanne from Living Lerwick for this behind-the-scenes photo!

As a local photographer here in Shetland, one of the things I enjoy the most is the variety of assignments. After a busy week of property photography, Saturday was something completely different!

On Saturday 9th August, Lerwick Town Centre was full of wagging tails and smiling faces for Dog Day, an event organised by Emma and Joanne from Living Lerwick. Despite the weather not being able to make up its mind, there was a great atmosphere in Harrision Square with a fantastic turnout.

As part of the event, I had been asked to come along and take a photograph of each dog which would form part of a fun competition. This proved quite a challenge as many of the dogs wanted to socialise with each other rather than pose for a photo! Nevertheless, I managed to capture all 63 dogs.

All the photos have been classified into three categories - Boanniest Lass, Most Handsome Boy, and Cutest Puppy. You can see the full set of pictures below and you can vote for your favourite on the Living Lerwick Facebook page. Just remember, it’s likes and hearts on the original posts that count!

Finally, it was great for dog owners to be made aware how many shops and cafés in the town centre welcome dogs. Many were surprised by just how dog-friendly Lerwick is, so hopefully it encourages more folk to shop local and bring their pups along next time.

It was great to be involved. Well done to Joanne and Emma at Living Lerwick for hosting Dog Day and to everyone who came along and supported the event.
