Team Shetland 2025
Last Sunday I had the task of photographing Team Shetland who are competing at this year’s Inter Islands Games in Orkney.
The Shetland team this year includes ten archers, twenty-two athletes, nine badminton competitors, three cyclists, forty footballers, eight golfers, six gymnasts, eleven bowlers, four sailors, eight squash competitors, sixteen swimmers, ten triathletes, plus coaches, managers and a medical team - a total of 174 of Shetland's best sportsmen and sportswomen.
I’ve included images from behind-the-scenes to highlight the preparation that goes into taking a photograph like this. The actual picture takes 1/60th of a second; however, executing the shot takes a lot of mental planning as well as a three hour setup on the day. A special thank you to Clickimin Leisure Complex staff member Alan Williamson for arranging all the chairs, benches and staging - I couldn’t have done it without you!
There’s sure to be a superb atmosphere in Orkney during the event which will be opened officially in Kirkwall by the Princess Royal on Saturday, while an opening ceremony at the town's Bignold Park will be hosted by Lorraine Kelly.
