About

Shetland Photographer Ben Mullay

My name is Ben Mullay and I’m a father, husband and huge Aberdeen FC fan!  I’ve also been taking photos since I was in short trousers!

If I look through old family photo albums, I always seem to have a camera in my hand, so photography has always been a passion of mine.

My love of photography came from my Daa (Grandfather) who lived along the road from me when I grew up.  I would always watch him taking photos and he was renowned for his sunset photographs of St Ninian’s Isle from outside his house in Bigton, Shetland.

Despite only being able to see partially in one eye, he took better photos than most who have two good eyes!  I have also learnt a lot from my Uncle Josie and both he and Daa handed down camera equipment to me when I was younger so I could progress.

In 2005 I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Business Studies.  I returned home to Shetland after graduating and began working in the photography industry full-time.

In 2012 I achieved a Licentiate of the Society of Wedding & Portrait Photographers (LSWPP) professional qualification which highlighted a demonstration to provide high quality work to my clients on a consistent basis.

If you’re looking for a commercial, wedding, event or family photographer I’d be delighted to hear from you.  Please get in touch or come along the Camera Centre in Lerwick for a chat.
