A Dawn Walk Through Sherwood Forest

During a recent family holiday at Sherwood Forest Center Parcs, I couldn't resist making the most of an encouraging weather forecast and setting the alarm for an early morning photo walk.

The forest was beautifully peaceful at first light with very little people around and the golden autumn light bringing the woodland to life. One of the biggest highlights was spending time photographing the resident grey squirrels, whose curious nature often brought them surprisingly close to the camera.

While the images capture some of the beauty of Sherwood Forest, they can't convey one of its most memorable qualities: the smell. The rich woodland scents of pine needles, moss and damp earth create an atmosphere that's every bit as special as the views themselves.
