Studio portraits - Shetland Young Musician
It was a pleasure to have musical royalty along the Ben Mullay Photography studio recently as Winnie Johnston, winner of the 2023 Intermediate Shetland Young Fiddler Of The Year, came along for some photos.
Winnie began playing the fiddle at aged 10 and was encouraged by her sister Anya who currently studies traditional music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. To get to such a high level in such a short period of time is remarkable.
Taught by Eunice Henderson, Winnie was also the 2022 Shetland Junior Young Fiddler of the year. She also enjoys playing the piano and accompanies her big sister during many a tune at their home in Lerwick.
I look forward to following Winnie’s musical career in the years to come.
