Up Helly Aa 2015 Daytime

Yesterday was a busy day photographing Lerwick Up Helly Aa 2015.  Having been inspired by world famous photo journalist Don McCullin’s ‘Fallen’ exhbition at Bonhoga Gallery and Shetland Museum & Archives, I decided to photograph the daytime events in black and white (also see ‘Up Helly Aa Build Up’ here).  It’s a major coup for Shetland to have an exhibition like this, so I recommend you take a look if you’ve not already been.  ‘Fallen’ runs until 22nd February.  For more information go here.

Guizer Jarl Neil Robertson and his squad were in great form and paraded through the streets of Lerwick with great gusto.  Considering the time of year and Met Office warnings, the weather was reasonable resulting in big crowds taking in this great spectacle.

Evening images will follow on a separate post.
