NAUTICAL INSTITUTE DONATE BOOKS TO THE NAFC MARINE CENTRE

The NAFC Marine Centre’s library received a kind donation from the Nautical Institute’s Shetland Branch yesterday (27 January 2014) when they were presented with a suite of maritime text books.

Presenting the books, chair of the Shetland Branch, Captain George Sutherland, said: “We have close links with the NAFC Marine Centre, they have been a great support to us over the years, and this donation is just a small gesture from us to show our appreciation.”

“We are keen to encourage the next generation of seafarers and we hope that these books will be a valuable resource to the cadets as they progress through their training at the Centre.

”The Nautical Institute is a major maritime publisher with over 200 titles to its credit. Many of these books have become industry standards and are acknowledged by the International Maritime Organisation. The hallmark of Institute publications is that they are 'Practical Guides' written 'by practitioners for practitioners'.

Accepting the donation, librarian, Ruth Priest, said: “These are high value well respected publications and I am delighted to receive them on behalf of the NAFC Marine Centre, they will be an excellent edition to the library.

“The Nautical Institute books are particularly valuable as they are written by people with real maritime experiences. I’m sure they will be widely used by both the students and members of the local community who have an interest in maritime matters.”
