Lerwick Town Hall on Wedding Night

Here is a picture I took at Diane and Dan’s wedding in July last year.  The happy couple were treated to a beautiful day of weather which was fortunate since their marriage was at St Ninian’s Isle.

I was bidding farewell at Lerwick Town Hall at about 11pm when I suggested to Diane and Dan that we try one more shot.  They had been very accommodating the whole day so it was no surprise that they agreed to my suggestion.  Brian Gifford, who had supplied the wedding car, kindly agreed to move the vehicle into position for this image.  It turned out to be one of my favourites from the day.

All the best to Diane and Dan for the future and thanks for a memorable day.

Lisa & Stephen’s Hamefarin

We recently covered Lisa Woodside and Stephen Glaister’s Hamefarin by taking them down to their chosen destination of St Ninian’s Isle, Bigton.

This was my second photo shoot at St Ninian’s Isle this summer and again the weather was absolutely glorious.  As a result the beach was very busy with people enjoying the fine day.  We had a great time photographing Lisa and Stephen despite the midges!

Lisa is originally from Bangor in Northern Ireland but moved to Shetland a few years ago.  Lisa is now working for the Shetland Islands Council at Hayfield House.

Stephen is employed by T & N Joinery and used to stay in Mossbank.

The Hamefarin was held afterwards at the Sandwick Social Club where there was a meal for 40 close family and friends.  Music was supplied by 6-piece folk-rock band Scaldin’ Bragg which added an Irish element to the evening.  Everyone had a great time and danced the night away.

Lisa and Stephen now live in Sandwick.  I would like to thank them for letting us cover their Hamefarin and wish them all the best for their future together.

Caroline & Trevor’s Unforgettable 06-08-10 Wedding

When Caroline and Trevor asked me to photograph their wedding it seemed such a long way away.  However, the big day arrived last Friday which was the culmination of many months planning and organising.  Despite a poor forecast the weather couldn’t have been better for them.

I met the bride, Caroline, and her bridesmaids, Kathleen and Jessalin, at hairdressing expert Liz Hunter’s in South Whiteness while Grace Allan was on hand doing the make-up.  I then darted across to Scalloway to photograph the groom with his best men and then returned to Whiteness to photograph Caroline, Kathleen and Jessalin.  After some coordination via mobile phone, I went back to Scalloway to capture the boys reaction when they saw the vehicle that was taking them to the service at Scalloway Kirk – an army style Jeep!

This is the first wedding I’ve blogged using my new video slideshow feature so look forward to getting feedback on this.  Special thanks to May & Mackie for allowing me to use one of their tracks – That’s The Kind of Mood I’m In – which is on their Long Way Down the Road Album.  You can read more about May & Mackie here and view their MySpace page here.

Congratulations to Caroline and Trevor – you guys make an awesome couple and thanks for letting me be  part of your big day.

Ok, sit back, turn up the volume, set to full screen, enjoy the show and post a comment below to let me know what you think!

Diane and Dan’s Perfect Summer Wedding

Last Saturday I had the honour of photographing Diane and Dan’s wedding at St Ninian’s Isle, Bigton.  I flew back on the Friday to meet the bride and groom having been on a short break.  I grew up with Diane at Sandwick Junior High School and the Anderson High School; however, this was the first time I’d had the pleasure of meeting Dan. They both live in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.  Diane is a Crime Scene Investigator while Dan is a Telecoms Analyst.

Friday’s weather was atrocious with heavy rain putting Saturday’s beach wedding in doubt.  However, on Saturday we were treated to the most perfect summer’s day with glorious blue skies and virtually no breeze at all.  Diane and Dan were a delight to deal with and were very keen, like me, to take advantage of the photographic opportunites due to the stunning weather.

Diane is extremely creative and made a lot of the decorations herself.  The beads on the bow of the shoe are an example.

Ibiza?!  No, this is St Ninian’s Isle, Bigton, Shetland!!  A toast to the happy couple.

I love this photo.  Thanks to the best man, Ben (good name!), ushers and page boy, Harry, for making the effort to get this image.

Diane’s bouquet was also hand-made.  She made the bouquet for maid of honour, Amanda, bridesmaid, Heather and flower girl, Zahra – amazing.  It must have taken her ages.

We took advantage of the wild flowers which were blooming in the fine summer’s day.

The reception was held at the Town Hall.  Congratulations to Billy, Robert and the rest of the team for putting on a excellent function.  The Town Hall which was opened in 1883 is a beautiful building, so I couldn’t resist getting some images of Diane and Dan inside.

They are now heading off to spend ten days in Hawaii Big Island for their honeymoon, calling at San Francisco for two nights en-route.

I wish Diane and Dan the very best for the future and thank you for letting us cover your big day.

Andrew & Sinead’s Midnight Wedding

Last weekend I had the pleasure of photographing Andrew Bowie and Sinead Johnstone’s midnight wedding at the Shetland Museum.  This was my first wedding with this format so was very excited as the day approached.  Andrew grew up in Shetland but now resides in Australia with Sinead whose home town is Dublin.

I met Andrew and Sinead a few days prior to the wedding and they couldn’t have been more pleasant to deal with.

Here are a few images from Andrew and Sinead’s big day.  I wish them all the very best for the future as husband and wife and hope they have a fanstastic trip to South America before they head back to Australia.

P.S. Congratulations to Shetland Museum Facilities Manager Paul Nadin and his team for hosting an excellent event and for making everything run so smoothly.

Malcolm & Gina, 10th December 2009

Malcolm Gray and Gina Edoc married recently at Lerwick Baptist Church.

It was a particularly poignant day as it will be  the last wedding held in the church before it is demolished and converted into Hjaltland Housing Association flats.  Conversely, it was Rev Iain Morrison’s first ever wedding which he handled admirably.

When Gina and Malcom contacted me about taking the photographs, I was very excited about doing a December wedding.  The weather leading up to the big day was very dull and dark; however, the conditions on the day were ideal considering the time of year.

I met Malcolm and his best man, David Henderson, at the Lerwick Hotel for some photos down around the cliffs.

I then moved onto the couple’s home where I met Gina and her bridal party.  The wedding dress had been a closely guarded secret leading up to the wedding.  As you can see from the above photograph, it was a beautiful dress and Gina looked stunning.

This wedding also had a celebrity element with Alistair Carmichael, MP for Shetland and Orkney, giving Gina away.  I had a little joke with Alistair when taking the photograph below that it would have been more appropriate with a number ’10′ on the door!

I’d met Malcolm, Gina and Alistair a few days prior to the wedding at the Lerwick Baptist Church to finalise arrangements.  On entering the church for the service the interior had been transformed by Gina & Malcolm’s family and friends to create a beautiful setting.  After the service I took some time with the bride and groom to capture some more images.

I’d like take the opportunity to thank Gina and Malcolm for inviting me to be a part of their big day.  They make a fantastic couple and I hope they have a very happy future together.

Joanna & Lorenzo’s Hamefarin

I recently had the pleasure of photographing Joanna and Lorenzo Cicchiello’s Hamefarin.  It was great to see Joanna again and to meet Lorenzo for the first time.  I was particularly impressed by Lorenzo’s willingness to give all the traditional Shetland dances his full commitment!

Joanna and Lorenzo live in South Eastern Connecticut , one of the six states in New England.  They were married in a Roman Catholic Church called Saint Mary’s which is located on the outskirts of Norwich City.

I’m currently making the final adjustments to their Hamefarin album design and then it’ll be sent to the printers.

I wish them both all the best for the future.
