Viking Parade – Clickimin Loch
I was out and about late last night capturing some photographs of the special Viking procession to mark the close of Shetland Hamefarin 2010.
The Clickimin Loch lights were switched off during the parade so I made this image once the famous landmark was displayed in all its glory.
If you look closely you’ll see some swans who returned to the loch after some 400 guizers took part in a torch-lit parade around Clickimin Loch. The parade culminated in the the burning of a specially prepared galley which marked the end of Shetland Hamefarin 2010.
Photos of the parade to follow.

Shetland Hamefarin 2010 – Tammy Anderson Tribute (Part 1)
Last night I attended the Tammy Anderson Tribute Tribute concert at the Clickimin Leisure Complex. There was a fantastic turnout and I managed to meet several Hamefarers who were really enjoying the music on offer.
Here are a few images from the evening featuring several of the headline acts namely Catriona Macdonald, Annbjørg Lien, Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham. For a full list of all the artists and their background please click here.

Shetland Visitor Magazine 2010
I was delighted when I found out that Shetland Litho had chosen one of my images to be used on the front cover of this year’s Shetland Visitor magazine. The magazine is now available and is free.
The image featured can be found on my gallery pages here. Some folk may be interested to know that this camera was taken with a 1958 Yashica 635 Twins Lens Reflex:
One of my all time favourite sunset photographs captured on a 1958 Yashica 635 TLR (Twin Lens Reflex). This camera takes 6×6 images on 120 roll film. As there is no built-in light meter then I had to guage the exposure myself. I got the exposure pretty much spot-on in this case, but using print film gave me much more latitude than slide film would have done.
With the Shetland Hamefarin, Shetland Classic Motor Show, Flavour of Shetland, record number of cruise liners, galas throughout the isles and the Mid-Summer Carnival it promises to be a very busy summer for Shetland. Hopefully this recent run of nice weather continues!

SHETLAND HAMEFARIN 2010
I see the official website of Shetland Hamefarin 2010 is now taking shape with new content being added reguarly. A summary of the event is quoted below from the Shetland Hamefarin homepage:
In June this year, Shetland will host a ‘Hamefarin’ (homecoming), welcoming Shetlanders from all around the world back to their home islands. The ceremonial return of those of Shetland extraction offers an opportunity for Hamefarers to reforge lost connections, enjoy the culture and heritage of Shetland and to enjoy a very special holiday. Hamefarers are expected from as far afield as Austrialisia and North America and for many, the visit to the land of their forebears will be for the first time.
Shetland Hamefarin 2010 is the third such event to be staged, following Hamefarins in 1960 and 1985. The 2010 event is expected to see the largest number of visitors yet, with around 500 Hamefarers estimated to be making the journey to Shetland.
I think it promises to be a massive event.
