Studio 4
Pictured below are a series of images from last week’s photo shoot at Lerwick hairdresser Studio 4.
Studio 4 are working in conjuction with Babbs Clubb of Anesthesiashetland who specialises in make-up for weddings, special occasions, parties and groups. They are forming a joint alliance providing hairdressing/make-up packages to bridal parties.
The shoot lasted from 9am right through until 7.30pm although the time seemed to fly by. Everyone involved did a fantastic job and there was great camaraderie the whole day.
I hope you enjoy the images below. If you would like to find out more information, please contact Babbs Clubb on 07760168830.

Barcelona
Photos below are from a really enjoyable short break to Barcelona. I was keen to travel light so packed my Canon EOS 5D Mark II with only one lens – the Canon 28-135mm IS USM.

Stone Building, Hoy, Orkney
The image above is another from my holiday in Orkney in the summer. This particular photograph was taken in Hoy. I liked the colours and textures of the stone building contrasting with the dramatic background.
The first image I posted in my Orkney collection can be viewed here.

Worldwide Photo Walk 2011 Review
Last Saturday I led the Shetland leg of the Worldwide Photo Walk for the third year in a row. I thoroughly enjoyed this year’s walk and it was great to see lots of new faces. I am looking forward to seeing the images that everyone managed to capture.
I spent a lot more time this year giving advice to photographers on subjects such as composition, camera skills and technical advice. As a result I did not get any images of my own apart from the shots you see here documenting the event.
This year’s walk was at Michaelswood, Aith. The weather was kind to us which was ideal for two hours of photography.
Michaelswood was created by Ray, Betty (pictured) and Alan Ferrie in memory of their son/brother Michael. A big thank you to Ray and Betty for allowing us access to the site especially as it’s off-season.
A bird observatory has been added which contains binoculars and information to help spot the wildlife on view.
Michaelswood is suitable for all ages. Bairns are well accommodated for with a special “Philosophers Trail”, amazing pirate ship to play in, a pond and a lovely picnic area with benches.
Participants soon started finding interesting subject matter to photograph.
Hundreds of trees have been planted over the years. The picture above shows the new plantation which will add a whole new dimension to the attraction in years to come.
Michaelswood is a fanstic visitor attraction and I would recommend it highly to anyone who has never visited.
Thank you again to Ray and Betty for allowing us unlimited access to Michaelswood for the Worldwide Photo Walk 2011.
A Flickr group has been created for everyone who attended to upload their images. To view the group please click here.
Stay tuned to my blog where I’ll be announcing the winning photo from my walk in the near future.

Rackwick, Hoy, Orkney
We enjoyed a very enjoyable few days in Orkney this summer. It was my first time in Orkney and I will definitely be going back for another visit soon. I was quite surprised how different it is to Shetland.
One highlight of the trip was our trip to Hoy. The name Hoy derives from Norse Háey meaning high island. Hoy has a population of 272 with Lyness being the main settlement area where there is an excellent visitor centre.
The picture above was taken at Rackwick which, as you can see, is a simply stunning place with its spectacular cliffs.
More photos from Orkney to come.

I had an amazing trip to Oxna yesterday where a brilliant day was finished off perfectly with a beautiful sunset. Below are a few images I managed to capture.

HMS Mersey (P283)
Pictured above is HMS Mersey (P283), a river class Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV), which was near the start line as the tall ships left Lerwick before on their race to Stavanger in Norway.
I feel all the elements in the image made for an interesting composition.
