Official Tall Ships Races 2011 – Lerwick Merchandise
There is now only seven days to go until the Tall Ships Races 2011 – Lerwick. If it is anything like 1999 we’re in for a fantastic event.
Over the last few months I have been working with the Tall Ships Races team on the official merchandise. One of my projects was to take product shots of all the official merchandise.
The Camera Centre have produced a great range of gift items which include mugs, Keyrings, coasters and fridge magnets.
Intersport have designed and printed a lovely selection of clothing which include t-shirts, sweatshirts and polo shirts.
Shetland Jewellery have created a stunning range of sterling silver and 9 carat gold pieces while Harry’s Department Store have a range of Burns Crystal glassware.
To view and purchase these items you can visit the official online store here.
To get you in the mood for the big event next week, you can view my archive collection series from Tall Ships 1999 here.

New owner at The Camera Centre
I am delighted to announce that I am now the Managing Director of The Camera Centre taking over from Cecil and Sheila Hughson who started the business in 1978. It will be a big challenge but one I’m looking forward to.
The Camera Centre is part of the Kodak Express franchise and is a one-stop-photo-shop providing the very latest products and services in digital photography from canvas gallery wraps to instant photo gifts. There are four in-store state-of-the-art Kodak kiosks which now allow you to print your Facebook photographs instantly.
SPECIAL OFFER: Anyone who orders 25 or more prints on the Kodak kiosks will qualify for a FREE 10×8 instant enlargment worth £4.99. Offer ends 31st May 2011.
You can also choose from the very latest Vodafone Pay-As-You-Talk mobile phones. Over 20 handsets are usually in stock which confirms The Camera Centre as Shetland’s number one choice for mobile phones.
To keep up-to-date with all the latest news from The Camera Centre, ‘like’ The Camera Centre’s Facebook page here. You can also ‘follow’ the Twitter page by clicking here.
We will be making some changes to the store in the coming months. If you have anything you would like to see please let me know. If you have never tried us before we would be delighted to show you what we can offer.
I would like to thank the many people who have wished me luck and given me cards – I really appreciate it.
The Shetland article published an article about the changeover which can be viewed here.

SMUHA 2011 – Brydon’s Big Day
Congratulations to Guizer Jarl Brydon Robertson aka Harald Maddadsson and his squad for leading a memorable South Mainland Up Helly Aa 2011. After the success of last year it was going to be hard to reach similar heights, but Brydon and his squad carried it off with aplomb. The squad’s singing was fantastic from start to finish and there was a great atmosphere throughout despite a mixed bag of weather.
The outfits were striking with the helmets being a particular highlight for me. The pupils at the various schools visited during the day enjoyed trying on the helmet and holding the axe/shield.
My first photograph was taken just after 7am (Friday) and I packed up the camera at 4.30am (Saturday)!
Here is a selection of pictures to give you a flavour of the day. I’ll be posting a comprehensive selection of images on my gallery very soon as well as squad photos I managed to capture.
Thanks to Brydon for letting me be part of his big day and to everyone else involved for making South Mainland Up Helly Aa 2011 a pleasure to photograph.

Guizer Jarl Brydon Robertson & Family at Garth’s Ness
Pictured below is Guizer Jarl Brydon Robertson aka Harald Maddadsson and family at Garth’s Ness where the official squad photographs were taken two weeks ago.
The location was perfect for the photographs with the spectacular landscape giving us a dramatic backdrop. Garth’s Ness was where the Braer oil tanker ran aground on January 5th, 1993 after losing engine power.
