The Westside News
I had a welcome visit last week from Ray Ferrie of Michaelswood in Aith who presented me with the latest edition of The Westside News. I was delighted to see that the front page was dedicated to the Shetland leg of the Worldwide Photo Walk 2011 which I led recently.
The cover photograph is the winning image which was photographed by Anne Macdonald.
I had not been aware of The Westside News but found it a really good concept and a great way of keeping a community informed with current events and achievements.

AND THE WINNER IS…
It has been a very, very difficult decision, but I can now reveal the winner of this year’s Worldwide Photo Walk 2011 (Shetland).
The first time I saw this image it immediately made me smile. This split second moment was a great capture by Anne – very well done.
The full pool of images submitted by all participants can be viewed over at the group Flickr page here.
The competitive element to the photo walk is a bonus. The main aim of the walk was for like-minded individuals interested in photography to spend two hours dedicated to taking pictures. This was achieved with participants conversing about subjects such as composition, technique and equipment which enabled everyone to hopefully take away useful bits of information from the event.
Finally, congratulations again to Anne for being the third winner of the Worldwide Photo Walk in Shetland.

Worldwide Photo Walk 2010 – Winner!
The winner of this year’s Worldwide Photo Walk 2010 (Shetland leg) is Gillian Okill. Congratulations to Gillian who wins a digital photography book and goes forward with all the other local winners across the world to be in contention of winning the grand prize.
I chose this image because it’s pin-sharp despite being at quite a hard height to photograph. The rusty chain is well composed within the photograph. I also like the contrast between the hard, edgy stones behind the chain and the smaller, lighter ones in the distance.
Thanks to everyone that took part and I hope to see you all again next year.

Worldwide Photo Walk – WINNER ANNOUNCED

I am pleased to announce that the winner of our photo walk here in Shetland goes to Jacqueline Halcrow from Cunningsburgh.
I have to admit it was a difficult decision as there were quite a few contenders. I particularly liked the perspective and composition of the image which Jacqueline captured. Every area of the photograph has something of interest with the eye leading in from the shell and stone in the foreground. The evening light is also casting a nice shadow adding depth and dimension.
Jacqueline wins the Digital Photography Book, Volume 3 – very well done. Her image now goes forward to be in contention of winning the Worldwide Photo Walk Grand Prize.
I would like to personally thank everyone that participated and entered the competition. Remember that all participants can still keep adding photos onto the group Flickr site here where we’re getting a great pool of shots. I hope to organise a similar type event later in the year after the positive feedback I’ve received.
Feel free to leave any comments below.
All the best
